Welcome to
My name is Tommy & I offer high quality sitar lessons all over London for students of all ages.
My lessons are built around you and what you want to achieve as a player & learner. I have an open approach to teaching, and maintaining a friendly professional relationship is key. I understand that many students will not have time to practice many hours a day, and others will. So, there is no need to be nervous when attending our lessons!
I will make a lesson plan built around the music you like to listen to as well as providing a solid grounding in Indian Music Theory.

Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginners and advanced players in a wide range of styles and genres. I will make a lesson plan that suits your ability level.
I am a Sitar player and have been studying this instrument intensely since a young age. I now have a variety of students of various levels. Please get in touch if interested, you do not need to own a Sitar when starting – I have a spare student Sitar for use during lessons. (Please note, my spare Sitar is full size, if there is a young child wishing to learn, it would be advisable to get a smaller Sitar for them - I am happy to advise on good options for children's Sitars.)
It is worth noting that I am able to teach Indian Classical Music to people proficient in other instruments as well. I will teach from the Sitar, which is can be in D, C# or C. Provided you have a good understanding of your instrument, we will be able to transfer the Indian Classical theory and practice to that instrument.
I am also a composer, producer and performer. I have been studying Sitar and Indian Classical Music since I was fourteen, and before that was a student of Western Classical and Jazz Piano. I come from a mixed Indian, British and French family.
My teaching focuses on accessibility and detail. I have taught a number of beginners who have had no experience in any music before, and on the other end have taught experienced sitar players.
Whatever your ability, I will tailor the teaching experience to you and your preferences. There are many pathways one can take in Indian music, and we can focus on the elements that interest you most, as well as of course the fundamentals.
Indeed, there are many traditional and Contemporary Sitar players: Anoushka Shankar, Ravi Shankar, Ananda Shankar, Vilayat Khan, Niladri Kumar, Nikhil Banerjee that might inspire you. As well as composers and bands featuring Sitar, including The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, George Harrison, The Incredible String Band, Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh and Kikagaku Moyu to name but a few.
I draw my inspiration from all of these artists, as well as taking influence from Jazz, Folk, Bossa Nova, electronic music and other contemporary genres.
