About

Hello! I’m Susan and I am a traveling piano and voice teacher! I also teach via zoom! I live and teach in the metro Detroit, Michigan area.

I hold a Bachelors of music degree in Piano and Vocal Performance/Pedagogy. I graduated cum laude from a small Liberal Arts school, Heidelberg College (now University) in Tiffin Ohio. While at Heidelberg I was elected into the Chamber Singers, a set of 12 singers who sang Madrigal and chamber music only, as a Freshman, and the Concert Choir. I was also involved in the Opera Theater, acted as choir secretary, and began my teaching my Junior year! Counting those years, I have been teaching 26 years!

Currently, I am busy teaching a nice studio of piano and voice students, sing in my church choir, act as a substitute playing the piano when my church choir director is away, and am a choir director for a local Senior Living Center. I accompany and am a judge for the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs as well.

Teaching is my passion. I love to see how well my students improve and are enjoying their lessons. I strive to make my studio a fun learning environment. I love teaching ALL ages! I teach a number of adults, as well as younger starting at 4!

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

I have is my Pedagogy degree. Pedagogy is actual learning of studio teaching.

In college I was entered into the Tau mu Sigma society. Tau mu Sigma is a society for musicians that achieved not only musical achievement but also academic. My Senior Year in College I was awarded the top Music Prize for the most likely to succeed.

The thing I am most proud of are my students. It all comes back to their accomplishments. Wether its a Recital performance they nail, a festival they score top score in, or just them getting a part correct in a song – I think I get more excited than they do! Every time a student or parent thanks me for teaching them my response is: They do the work, I am only there to guide them.
