About

About

I have been teaching for over 40 years now, maybe because I love it so much! I teach piano, flute, recorder, music theory, and give extra aural training lessons to students of other teachers who don’t have the time in their own lessons to cover the aural tests in the run-up to exams. I teach all kids of music from classical to pop, and grade 5 theory for those who are taking GCSE music or who need to pass grade 5 to progress with their practical exams.

I have worked in many of my local schools over the years, currently, I am principle piano and music theory teacher at a large private girls school. Because I have been teaching for so long, I have taught two generations of some families, which makes me feel old, but also pleased that they enjoyed my teaching so much, they came back for lessons for their children.

Currently around half a dozen of my ex-pupils are working as music teachers, and they tell me I was their inspiration, which makes me feel very proud and humble too. My favourite thing about teaching is that no two days, no two lessons and no two pupils, are the same, and I have to adapt and learn how to teach each one of them in a way that means something to them.

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

  • CT ABRSM which I gained in 1997
  • Cert Music (ed) from trinity college
  • Dip ABRSM
  • Four decades of experience of teaching and of entering students for exams, mostly for the Associated Board and for London College of Music

I was, for several years a Hon. Local Rep for LCM. I have taught in several of my local schools over the years, teaching class music, recorder groups and accompanying singing, choirs, and so on, as well as teaching individual lessons

Lin Martin has taught my daughter piano since year 2. We wouldn’t dream of having anyone else and over the years we now consider her a family friend. She has been both patient and thorough in her lessons, teaching through the Summer holidays and more recently switching to Zoom. Due to her efforts my daughter has achieved brilliant results . I would highly recommend her.

Ms Martin has been teaching my daughter piano since she was six (she’s now seventeen) and has not only taught her everything she knows, but most importantly given her a passion for music which she will continue to have for the rest of her life. She makes lessons fun and engaging, whilst also encouraging a brilliant work ethic and supportive environment.

Lin has taught my daughter piano for 11 years! She is about to take her ABRSM grade 8 piano. Neither my husband or I have any musical background – Lin has taught her everything, and she’s going to study music at university next year. Lin is exceptionally generous & enthusiastic; her passion for teaching is remarkable. Through tough times & challenges, she has always known just what to say and do to make things better. We are forever in her debt.
