About

About

I am a professional piano teacher and performing musician previously based in Southampton but now in Cardiff. I have many years of experience teaching the piano to adults and children 1:1, and also experience in teaching large groups of people such as choirs and ensembles.

As of 2016, I completed my BA (Hons) Music degree from the University of Southampton and also completed the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Jazz and Rock Week course under the guidance of Jazz artists such as Jason Rebello and Scott Stroman. I am a classical and jazz-trained pianist with ample experience in performing and composing professionally.

Examples of my work include: I was commissioned to compose and perform for ‘The Jutland Legacy Conference in Portsmouth’ 2017 and perform for ‘Dickens Festival of Christmas’ 2017, 2018, both at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. I have also worked as an assistant choirmaster.

I am an active folk musician playing in Scottish dance ensembles; ‘Strathallan’ and ‘Corryvrechan’ including dance displays, weddings, ceilidhs and social dancing. We perform in the South of England and beyond, a recent highlighted performance included Shrewsbury Folk Festival 2019.

I am open to teaching all students from beginners to a higher level and will tailor the lessons to the students’ needs both adults and children.

I have vast knowledge in a wide variety of genres such as Classical, Jazz, Folk and Pop, and is happy to accommodate according to what the student would like to learn. If your desire is to progress through the grades or just learn for fun, all are welcome!

“As a novice piano learner, who did not begin piano until adult life, I was nervous about where to begin. Anna has been a brilliant piano teacher and really helped introduce me to the world of piano and indeed music. She was always organised in her lessons and is a patient and kind teacher who offers support and encouragement. Anna helped me to begin reading music as well as understand the basic principles of playing the piano and facilitated what I wanted to get out of our time together, in our lessons. She makes wise suggestions on how best to supplement practice in between lessons. Overall I would highly recommend Anna as a trusted and kind teacher.”
