I am very easy going as I remember having many piano teachers who I dreaded seeing! My goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and to learn in a fun environment.
I keep parents up to date with every lesson. I encourage parents to observe lessons if they wish and to help with productive practice for their children. I also take notes on every lesson which can then be emailed to parents.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginner and advanced students in a wide range of styles and genres. I will make a lesson plan that suits your ability level.
My name is Ashley Kingsley. I’m a piano teacher based in Brighton, with a Masters degree from the Royal College of Music. I teach all ages from 7 and up, and I happily teach beginners to very advanced levels in all styles of music.
My experiences as a professional pianist have taught me that we are all different and unique in our tastes in music, so being very flexible is vastly important especially when teaching the piano.
I have a wide range of qualifications including a Masters in Composition for screen from Royal College 0f Music & I've composed Music for many Music Library companies and 2 feature films in US, I've also done full orchestration for Beverley Knight for Andrea Bocelli European tour 2018. As a performer I've played for numerous Artists including Beverly Knight, Jimmy Cliff & Chris Rea.
Music notation is a unique language, so it’s important to understand the basics of this in order to lay down the foundations of your practise. I vastly encourage learning to play the music that interests you. In fact, I feel it’s mandatory to learn songs you love – after all, that’s why you’re learning right?
I do believe that for beginners and school children it’s highly valuable to learn to read music.
I strive to be as honest with students about there practise as possible and will always do this in a very gentle way. It’s vital that all students feel comfortable asking me when there is something they don’t understand and that they respect my opinion.
Here at Piano Lessons Brighton, we are often asked for advice about where the best music stores are. The good news is Brighton has multiple shops to service your every need!
Hobgoblin Music Shop Brighton always has a wide selection of guitars and keyboards. The shop is located at 108 Queens Road, Brighton, BN1 3FX. The staff at Hobgoblin are all incredibly friendly and very helpful in getting you set up and ready to go.
Another store you could try is Brighton Guitars, located 44 Sydney Street, Brighton, BN1 4EP. Here you can find a huge selection from both second hand and brand new guitars! They provide a selection of both Electric and Acoustic guitars so you'll be able to find the right axe for you. This is obviously more for guitar players rather than pianists.
GAK - (Guitar and Keyboards) is one of the larger music stores in Brighton. The shop is located 76-82 North Road, Brighton, BN1 1YD. GAK will likely provide you with one of the largest selections of guitars and keyboards you'll find anywhere nearby. Almost any musical item you can think off, you'll likely find here! Indeed, GAK is an internationally known brand with a powerful online shop serving customers across the UK and beyond.
I'm an experienced player and performer who can help you improve your playing rapidly as well as helping you gain confidence in your own ability. I will make a lesson plan that is tailored to your needs as a player. For more information, feel free to send me an email at any time.
[email protected]My lessons are charged at £28 per half hour and £40 per hour.
My lessons are taken from my home teaching space on Albion Hill in Brighton, BN2 9NW.
I teach students of all ages but recommend starting to learn no younger than age 5.
You can take lessons as and when you like. I would recommend taking weekly piano lessons for best results. Half-hour weekly lesson work best for younger learners, when for adults I would recommend taking 1-hour weekly lessons.
