Welcome to
Joanna Abel is a professional clarinet teacher offering the chance to learn from the comfort of your own home via online lessons. Lessons are built around your goals and the styles and genres that you enjoy listening to in your spare time.
I have taught music as an educator for the past 20+ years and in this time have worked with students from all walks of life, all ages and styles. I like getting to meet new people and always ensure the sessions are as relaxed as they can be. Learning an instrument should be fun and I like to keep it that way as I find it helps keep students motivated and driven.
I pride myself as a teacher on providing the highest quality clarinet lessons that I can. Lessons with me will focus on instrumental techniques, musical interpretation, performance skills, harmony, posture as well as a whole other selection of musical topics to help you not only become a better Clarinet player but a better general musician too.

Above all else I like to make sure my students enjoy what they are learning. I really feel that enjoying what you learn is a huge key to becoming an amazing musician and player. Because of this we will always learn in a direction you feel comfortable with.
My lessons are always one to one and taken from the comfort of your own home. I believe that learning online is just as good as learning in person these days and my online lessons are conducted no differently to my face to face lessons. I think that clarinet is an instrument that can take a lot of time to learn and I will always give my students realistic timescales and be completely honest with what you need to change or improve to become a better player.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginner and advanced learners to take my lessons and will always make a plan that suits your needs as a player and learner.
I’ve been a musician, ever since I picked up an old boxwood clarinet at the tender age of 6 and started playing a tune on it. I played in orchestras and wind bands, and by the time I was 14, I had passed my Grade 8 Associated Board practical exam.
When I left school, I discovered the saxophone and fell in love with the sound, so I bought one and began playing in a folk-rock band. From here on, I played in a variety of bands; jazz, funk, comedy, folk and pop – I found I liked the variety.
I also passed my Grade 8 Jazz practical exam with honours in 1999. I also started playing the flute in a folk band and discovered I love playing this instrument too.
I began peripatetic teaching in schools back in 2000 and have been doing this on and off in a part-time capacity ever since and many of my pupils have passed practical and theory grade exams.
I have also had many private pupils along the way. I have now started online tutoring, a new thing for me, but I have found it to be fun and effective. I am based in Suffolk, near Ipswich if anyone prefers in person.
I'm an experienced teacher and player who would be more than happy to help you learn and enjoy how to play the clarinet through professional online clarinet lessons for students of all ages in a wide range of styles.
