Welcome to
My name is Sally Reading and I am a professional Clarinet teacher offering high quality Clarinet lessons students of all ages (6+) based in Cambridge.
I have taught music as an educator for the past 6 years and in this time have worked with students from all walks of life, all ages and styles. I like getting to meet new people and always ensure the sessions are as relaxed as they can be. Learning an instrument should be fun and I like to keep it that way as I find it helps keep students motivated and driven.
I pride myself as a teacher on providing the highest quality clarinet lessons that I can. Lessons with me will focus on instrumental techniques, musical interpretation, performance skills, harmony, posture as well as a whole other selection of musical topics to help you not only become a better Clarinet player but a better general musician too.

As well as the clarinet I do also play and teach Piano and Saxophone too. I have performed and taught these instruments for many years to students of all different age groups and ability levels. This wide range of knowledge allows me to tailor my lessons to the specific needs of the individual student. I accept that we all love and want different things from music so I will always make sure we are learning material you like!
Together we will create a lesson plan that includes artists and styles that you enjoy to listen to the most. This way we can always ensure progress and get double the reward at the end as you'll be able to play all those songs you've enjoyed listening to for so long as well as growing and developing on your instrument and as a musician in the process.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I have experience in teaching students of all ages and abilities. Whether you're just picking up a clarinet for the first time, or you're just looking to move up to that next level, my lessons are tailored and suitable for any student no matter how much or how little experience you may have.
I am an enthusiastic piano, clarinet and saxophone teacher with plenty of experience working with all age groups. I have been involved in music since I was young, starting off on the clarinet before moving to the piano. I am a fully qualified teacher having completed my ABRSM Grade 7 in Classical Piano and Trinity College Grade 7 in Jazz Clarinet, as well as recently obtaining a music degree from the University of Hull.
Over the years I have gained a lot of teaching experience, having been teaching for nearly five years now to a wide range of students from the age of 6 – 55 (anyone is welcome)! I mostly teach beginners but am happy to take people who have previously had lessons as well. I hope to be a music therapist and once qualified plan to still teach alongside this as it's a passion of mine and something I find very rewarding, especially when a student finds that passion for the instrument too.
I am happy to teach all styles and genres of music including popular or classical music (I myself am classically trained). I will always use my years of experience to provide the most in depth and informative lessons that I can. The lessons I provide can be taught from my own home but I am also happy to travel to the students’ house too for the lessons if this is more suitable. It is helpful if the student has a Clarinet to practice on – although not essential if they are a total beginner.
The lessons I provide are very flexible and designed to work around you and your own musical goals and aims. Most students tend to take a one hour lesson with me each week and I find that this tends to allow for the most consistent development and growth over the course of the lessons, but you can however take lessons at whatever frequency suits you.
For younger students I would be more inclined to recommend 30 minute lessons as this can help the keep their attention as sometimes the hour can seem a little long for younger learners and I find their attention can sometimes drift. For all students I will always do my best to keep the lessons as relaxed and entertaining as I can as I feel this helps encourage student to keep practising when overcoming the challenges we all face.
Whether this is your first time playing a clarinet or you're 100th time, don't hesitate to get in touch and book a lesson today and together we will get you to that next level. I am happy to cater for any student of any skill level in my lessons and have years of experience working with students from all musical backgrounds and walks of life. The lessons I provide are well rounded to help you develop as an all round general musician.
