Cello Teacher in Nottingham
Email: [email protected]
I’m a friendly and encouraging DBS checked cello teacher with experience teaching children and adults from total beginners to middling grades.
I have a flexible approach and will cater to the learning style and musical tastes of the student. My varied experience as a session cellist proves that cello doesn’t have to mean only classical!
My calm and positive presence suits less confident students. I prioritise general musicianship and enjoyment of playing over jumping from grade to grade, but I am happy to enter students for ABRSM exams when suitable.
I have completed the Trinity Certificate of Music Educators. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Music with Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Music, and have completed ABRSM exams in cello (grade 8), clarinet and music theory (grade 6), piano and voice (grade 3). I am also trained in BSL and welcome anyone who uses BSL to learn with me.
I initially gained experience of instrumental teaching in schools through a rewarding voluntary role before my first paid teaching positions. Although specialising in cello, I also currently teach violin, recorder and performing arts in primary schools. I have several years of experience of teaching individual, small groups as well as whole class instrumental tuition. I have embraced online lessons in 2020 using Zoom.
I’m happy to answer any questions you may have, so please feel free to get in touch.

Rowena has taught my son the cello for the past few years. He’s made excellent progress and really enjoys his lessons with her. It’s really benefitted his motivation to practice because she has chosen music to learn that interests him. Her communication is also excellent and she’s really reliable, couldn’t hope for more.
We have been delighted with Rowena’s cello teaching for our 12 year old son Ben. She has a very supportive and encouraging approach, and Ben’s confidence and ability have grown hugely under her tuition. Rowena has taught Ben pieces of his choice as well as grade pieces which has really helped maintain his interest and motivation. Highly recommended!
My daughter Emma has improved massively since being taught by Rowena. Her kind and approachable manner makes her an amazing teacher. She has a contagious passion for music and makes learning & practising fun.
