Teacher Info
I’m a freelance musician and drum teacher based in Birmingham, specialising in drum kit and percussion. As a performer I most often play jazz/improvised music but also have experience across a diverse range of musical situations.
I’ve taught students across a broad spectrum of abilities, from beginners to advanced musicians. Tuition is tailored to the needs and interests of each pupil, whilst offering a holistic approach to musicianship with an emphasis on learning from real musical examples. Music from a broad spectrum of styles is covered, combined with exercises designed to address the technical demands of the instrument. This aims to develop fundamental skills that equip students for the challenges of real-life playing situations and at the same time making sure practice is rewarding and fun.

I recently began lessons with Nathan and have found him to be extremely warm and welcoming, a kind hearted person with a clear natural musical gift. The lessons are a bargain and full of musicianship and technicality that is broken down by Nathan in an easy accessible, intelligent non judgmental way…even for an ole’ broad like me! He could literally teach anyone. Highly recommend and has a base in the coolest , most artistic part of the city, Floodgate street. He’s made me so glad that I explored my musical side before it got too late! No more ‘clandestine air drumming’ for me, thanks to Nathan being kind and patient.
