Teacher Info

I am a composer, saxophonist and pianist, currently studying a Masters of Music Composition for Film and Television at the University of Bristol. I have a degree in music composition from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I currently play in an electro swing band and two orchestras. When I was in Sydney, I performed in an orchestra, an improv group and a saxophone quartet. At times, my own compositions were performed with these groups.

I absolutely love teaching and sharing my passion for music. I have taught for 7 years doing both privately and at music schools. During this time I have taught private and group lessons, directed and organised music camps, written curriculum, designed games and trained other teachers. Training new teachers was a wonderful experience that gave me insight into a myriad of teaching methods. I enjoy helping students to find and reach their individual goals. Each student is different and should be taught in different ways.

I teach a range of styles for all levels, including improv, classical and jazz. My own musical interests are diverse, allowing me to provide recommendations across all genres, and to introduce students to new genres in ways that will be interesting to them. Whether students are looking to progress through exams, challenge themselves in new styles or simply play the music they love, lessons are catered for each individual student. I spend the first lesson getting to know the student, along with their own goals, skills and interests. I am then able to make a programme that suits the student which could include games, technical work, studies and of course music by composers that they will love.

COVID brought with it the opportunity to teach online, and while this created many challenges, it also showed the flexibility and range of music teaching. Online lessons are similar but different, allowing for easy sharing of music and new ways to learn. Outside of teaching, my passion is composition, which is something that I love to incorporate into my lessons. Composition can provide beautiful, creative exercises for the mind that positively impact the way in which one practises and performs. It can also allow students to gain a greater understanding of the theory behind the music they are playing, as well as increasing confidence. I offer lessons both online and in person, or with a mixture of those two mediums. I look forward to guiding more students towards their musical goals, and to help them find new passions in music.

Kristina is a wonderful teacher. She helped me improve after a lot of self-study during COVID, and brought some much needed discipline to my practice, as well as helping me to gain the confidence to improvise. Working with Kristina is fun and engaging and the hour lesson always flew by. She has a lot of musical knowledge to share, and would love to work with her again.
