Teacher Info
I am an elecric and double bass player, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter living in North East London, with nearly 15 years of professional experience as performer, composer/songwriter, bandleader, session musician and teacher.
I am relaxed, patient and am keen to share my knowledge and skills with those who are in turn keen to learn! Teaching 1 to 1 lessons on Bass Guitar and Double Bass since 2012 (and taking lessons since long, long before!) I have earned great insight into different learning styles and take great joy in seeing students excel. It is my genuine goal to see students flourish and excel in their chosen music styles! I share my knowledge and experience to create an enjoyable and deep journey into the world of music that serves the interests of each individual student.
I was taught by several great teachers including music conservatoire bass lecturers, masters of specific world-folk styles, renowned session players, as well as esteemed solo bassist Michael Manring. I still take ocassional lessons myself, for in my opinion we can never know everything, a good musician, teacher, artist, human will always continue learning, and remain humble.
I have led university workshops teaching music (Specifically jazz/groove improvisation and Balkan songs/rhythms), taught NYJO workshops, led guitar classes and I also mentor some aspiring musicians in recording, songwriting and general musicianship. A little about my wider experience in Music… Thanks for reading, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or interest in taking a lesson!
Music Qualifications & Achievements:
Most of my achievements are in practical experience of performing, recording and teaching; with which I have worked in around 30 countries in 4 continents and recorded around 15 incredibly varied albums, with more incoming! Check out Cykada, Blanco White, Afrik Bawantu or Mimika Orchestra.
I grew up playing Jazz and Rock from a very young age on a number of instruments. However since moving to London to advance my life in music 10 years ago and aged 19, I am incredibly grateful to have been submerged in music and culture from Balkans, Greece, Turkey, Cuba, West Africa and Congo, as well as to have learnt and gigged lots of hiphop/neo-soul, jungle/DnB/garage and Modern Jazz / Improvisation. I love to blend these contrasting styles to innovate new sounds.
Some places I have performed at include : Glastonbury, Pitchfork Festival Chicago, London Jazz Festival (a few times), Southbank Centre, BBC radio and TV, TRT (Turkish TV), Iranian TV, many European tours, Village Underground, Ronnie Scotts, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg…
Currently I am taking a Music Performance Masters (MA) at Goldsmiths University, I have a Rockschool grade 8 on electric bass, grade 5 theory, and a diploma for a short course in Azeri Mugham. I have also been offered or awarded several scholarships to study and/or mentor with institutions such as Berkelee College of Music Boston, Idyllwild Calfifornia, Sligo Jazz, Dartington.

Jamie is a wonderful bass guitar teacher! I have learnt so much already in a few lessons. He is a very calm and encouraging teacher, he is so talented and very humble that learning bass guitar with Jamie is a joy. Jamie is a very attentive teacher who has a great attention to detail and shares his wealth of knowledge in a non-overwhelming way. I look forward to every lesson and my bass guitar progression.
