About Me

About

I completed my degree in Harp Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 2011. Since then, I have been teaching the harp and the piano both privately and in schools. Following my studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, I accepted the post of Practice Supervisor at Chetham’s School of Music, helping to support the young musicians with their practice and meeting their musical goals for that week.

Before moving to York, I was also a Harp Teacher at Chetham’s, as well as Yorkshire Young Musicians in Leeds. My students have achieved very high marks in their exams, as well as being offered places at Chetham’s School of Music. It makes me feel so happy and proud when my students achieve their goals. My teaching philosophy and goal is to foster a life-long love and appreciation for all different styles of music. Not everyone will want to take exams or go to music school, but music can add so much to our lives, my aim is to aid you on your musical journey, wherever you are right now and wherever you want to go in the future. My teaching style on both the harp and the piano is built on a solid foundation of music theory and technique. We’ll spend a small portion of your lessons on music theory if needed.

My musical journey started at around age 4, nagging my father to start teaching me the piano as I’d heard him teach his other students from our music room! I was exposed to so much music growing up through my father, who was a conductor and pianist, whether it was orchestras and the theatre or church choirs and recitals, I loved it all. Music brings people together and is a life-long journey. I auditioned and was offered a place at Chetham’s School of Music in 2005 to study the harp and the piano alongside my A-levels, and went to the Royal Northern College of Music after that.

Since graduating, I have been a freelance performer and teacher. I play for lots of weddings, local and national orchestras, as well as solo recitals. Highlights have included playing the harp for the 60th birthday concert of the (then) Prince Charles, and playing the harp under the dinosaur in the entrance hall of the Natural History Museum in London.

I am also a founding member of CLOUDS Harp Quartet, we play original folk music inspired by the traditional music of Scotland and have released four CDs as well as playing at Edinburgh International Harp Festival, Hidden Door Festival and many other concerts and tours over the years.

Outstanding and exemplary tutor! I feel so privileged and fortunate that I am under Angelina’s musical tutelage in the journey of mastering harp-playing. Angelina is such a professional tutor; lessons are so enjoyable and fully focussed on progress. I would highly recommend Angelina.
