About

About

Graduated pianist from the Royal Northern College of Music specialising in Music Education, Gema is a Spanish/Chinese pianist based in Manchester. She has experience teaching for 6 years to a wide range of students (beginners, young professionals, preparing for exams, or just for fun). She has taught people of ages 2-53, in three different languages (English, Spanish and Chinese).

She teaches classical and pop repertoire, both in person and online.
Gema loves getting to understand her students, not only on their piano skills but also the circumstances surrounding their lives and their effect on their learning experience. She makes sure to tailor everything to their personal needs, so she always plans in advance and is open for a chat beforehand.
Gema has successfully prepared all her ABRSM students to date and is able to teach Trinity, Rockschool and MTB syllabuses. She is also a piano teacher at a high school where she prepares GCSE students for their solo/ensemble performances.

About her experience as a performer, she has won 20 prizes in competitions and performed in 9 different countries (Spain, UK, France, Netherlands, Latvia, United States, China, Korea and Switzerland).

To this day Gema is certain that her passion is teaching and helping students unlock their potential.

Gema is a fantastic teacher all around. She is able to carefully pick out flaws in your playing but does it in a way that motivates you to do better. She always has great repertoire recommendations but will give you free choice over the pieces you want to play if you wish. Other than that she is very reliable and easy to communicate with if you have any concerns about your tuition. Overall she is a brilliant, supportive tutor and one that I would highly recommend.

Gema Lu Cai was my piano teacher for about 10 months. Her classes were particularly helpful, as they allowed me to practice the technical aspects of the piano while playing a repertoire I was interested in. She always provided me with meaningful feedback, and helped me progress in my personal goals as a musician. For these reasons I fully recommend her for the job.
