About

About

Cheryl Lockett cultivates, curates and presents an eclectic vision of sound that appeals to a diverse listening audience. The roots music that exemplifies her vocal style is a fusion of modern jazz, vintage blues, classic rock, Afro-Latin and Native American rhythms, with minor key tonality.

Her riveting voice and warm style promise any listener an aesthetically pleasing and cohesive composition of music that flows like silk.

Lockett who’s maiden birth name is Craig, is the daughter of a founding member of the legendary Blue Notes from Merced, which is a groove-oriented sextet of the 50’s and 60’s era.

A product of that same groove-oriented ancestry, Lockett began singing at age 4 and drawing at age 12 (child prodigy-age 4). The finished product of her work is profound with an impeccable illumination of deep cultural roots in music and visual art.

Cheryl Lockett is not only the preeminent vocalist in the western region of the country, with a lifetime of experience in all musical settings, but she’s a meticulous master of coordinating events and appropriate repertoires with groups of all tastes and purposes. She’s more than fun to work with, she’s humble, but very aware of her prominent role on any stage. Getting Cheryl to your event is a real coup.

Friday, November 9, 2012, I attended the Sound of Unity concert and witnessed Cheryl Lockett sing a sweeping jazz song by the artist Rachelle Ferrell. Miss Lockett’s voice is an aquifer of resonance. It was very comforting, warm and satisfying.

Cheryl has a beautiful gift, vocally and musically, to be able to shape a moment in song,” Nelson said. “There are many vocalists who can sing a song, but Cheryl crafts moments with her voice that are both artistic and emotionally touching. She goes far beyond learning the songs; she steps into the heart and artistry of the artist she’s portraying.
