Teacher Info
Hello, my name is Simon and I’m a piano teacher and trumpet teacher based in Belfast. I studied music at the University of York and have been teaching for the past 4 years.
I have a background in classical, pop and jazz music, so I can teach any of these genres, and I have experience teaching both adults and children, complete beginners and more advanced players.
When it comes to lessons, I try to make these as accessible as possible, tailored for each pupil’s needs and preferences. I am happy to teach through grades or to work towards “homemade targets”. At the end of the day, my main aim is to help people flourish in their music. Putting in the work and time to figure out what is best for each pupil is definitely worth it for me!
Levels I teach at:
Piano tuition up to grade 5.
Trumpet tuition up to grade 8.
As well as my tuition, I have performed regularly with a jazz trio and occasionally as part of a larger function band. Up until recently, I was director of music at St. Thomas’ church, York, as well as conducting the St. Thomas’ gospel choir.

“Simon is an excellent trumpet teacher. He has helped my confidence, range, technique and overall sound improve tremendously over the last few years which has enabled me to move from an intermediate to a more advanced level of trumpet playing. His technical knowledge and patience make the lessons rewarding and challenging. Beyond technique, Simon has helped to keep my interest with the choice of pieces and has provided a good mix of encouragement and realism to bring about progress. I would highly recommend Simon to
prospective pupils.”
