When I was ten years old, I was taken to the theatre to watch a group of Romanian musicians and I was fascinated by the sight and sound of the violinist. A year later I began receiving violin lessons at my secondary school playing my grandfathers violin. By the time I was seventeen, I had performed in a youth orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, London and in Bermuda.
At eighteen I gained a place on the graduate course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. There I studied violin, piano and composition as the main elements of that course where I obtained a degree in Music. I went on to Manchester to study for a certicate in education enabling me to become a qualified teacher.
I have taught in many schools as a peripatetic strings teacher for various local authority music services throughout the Northwest. I taught the violin and viola at Birkenhead School for several years and I taught at two private schools in Liverpool.
I particularly enjoy teaching on a private basis now and some of my pupils have gone on to become professional performers and teachers themselves in London and Germany.
I teach all levels from beginner to diploma standard and I can prepare pupils for Associated Board Examinations and GCSE performance. I teach age ranges from 6+ to adult. Students can learn for fun, take exams or enhance their portfolio prospects for college or university.

My name is Ann Powell and I am a former pupil of Ms Rosemary Sims. My time with Rosemary was both rewarding and enjoyable and lessons were always planned to create a good structured music lesson. Rosemary saw me through all my Royal Schools of Music exams of which I passed with good marks.
Rosemary Sims is a superb violin teacher and the best music instructor I’ve ever had when it comes to technique. Coupled with a kind, gentle and encouraging manner, I would recommend her as a violin teacher for any age group. I took up the violin after not having touched one for thirty years. Under Rosemary’s direction, I started with the basics and gradually became a much better player than I ever had been. I learnt new techniques like bow control which made it a far more pleasurable experience than it had ever been. I confidently and wholeheartedly recommend Rosemary to anyone looking for a violin teacher.
Thank you for being such a great teacher and for helping me to learn violin. I still have books with your writing in. I am very grateful to you to have taught me
