Teacher Info

Kirsten is a passionate violin teacher and community music facilitator, intent on nurturing creativity in all her students! Music has been part of Kirsten’s life since the age of 4 when she began violin lessons. She was brought up in the Suzuki Method and she is experienced in Suzuki Pedagogy. In 2017, Kirsten graduated from Ulster University with a MMus in Music in the Community and also has a BMus in Violin Performance from Susquehanna University.

During her undergraduate studies, Kirsten taught violin with the Susquehanna University Music Preparatory Program. She played an active support role in the SU Strings Ensemble. In addition to individual lessons, Kirsten taught group violin classes during the quarterly strings workshops put on by the music department of the university. After completing her post-graduate degree she attended Musicians without Borders’ Training of Trainers in Ede, Netherlands. Following this training, Kirsten went on to teach violin as a volunteer with Sounds of Palestine and Musicians without Borders in Bethlehem, Palestine.

Kirsten is interested in holistic education methods and studied with Dalcroze School of the Rockies towards the internationally recognised Dalcroze Certificate. Most recently she was a tutor in Irish Traditional Music for beginning fiddle students at Acadamh Ceoil in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, teaching a group class for children ranging in age 4 to 14.

Now living in Oxford, England, Kirsten is a full-time music educator. Her lessons are tailored to the individual and there is a balance between repertoire, technique and theory – all while engaging the students’ creativity and having some fun! She has a private studio of violin and viola students and aims to build a practice of community music workshops for the general public.

“Kirsten is a fantastic teacher. She takes the time to understand her students’ learning aspirations. She takes these seriously, and then provides very clear and coherent lessons on how to reach your aims. I am returning to violin as an adult learner, trying to progress from intermediate to advanced and struggling. Kirsten was immediately able to identify and diagnose areas for my improvement and has supplied me with brilliant exercises to help me grow as a musician. I am really enjoying studying with her and look forward to many more lessons.”

“Kirsten was our daughter’s first violin teacher for three years when Kirsten was a college student at Susquehanna University where I serve as a professor. Kirsten is always well organized, patient, pleasant and positive. She is always smiling. My daughter made great strides in violin with Kirsten as her teacher and she loved and looked forward to her lessons. Our family highly recommends her as a tutor!”
