About

About

Barney is a young British professional drummer and drum teacher with experience beyond his years. He has performed in both studio and live settings all over the world, with sets at Glastonbury and BBCs Maida Vale Studios, and tours with Mumford and Sons and Nick Mulvey to name a few.

Barney is a relatively new addition to Berlin’s music scene having spent his earlier years studying Jazz music in both Leeds and London, England. New projects and Berlins renown music culture have led him here where he’s established a cool teaching studio in Friedrichshain to continue his work in that domain.

Having taught for close to 15 years, Barney’s lessons are catered to each and every individual, whatever your goals are. Whether you just want to rock out to your favourite songs or go deep into advanced technique and speed, he’s familiar with the journey at every stage and is encouraging of all styles, abilities and ages. Most importantly though he just wants you to enjoy playing as much as he does and to take pride in the process of improving your skills.

Barney is also a multi-instrumentalist and can offer knowledge with regards to reading and writing music theory, guitar and keyboard skills, songwriting, and production and recording techniques. Group or whole band lessons are also thoroughly encouraged!

Barney’s German is at a good level having lived in Berlin for several months. And while he is committed to improving every day, for the time being, he is admittedly more competent and qualified to lead lessons in English. Maybe there are language tips you can help him with in return!

Barney’s a really great communicator. We could talk for the whole hour about just being in the moment when playing, and how that thinking and focus can improve your feel and precision

Feel totally relaxed around Barney, he can explain everything in different ways and from every angle so you really get a comprehensive understanding of groove, technique and styles. I’ve worked through my grade 7 with him and I smashed it. Looking forward to the next one.
